It looks like the best day for the Jbloggers picnic will be Monday of Chol HaMoed, in the afternoon/evening (starting around 2:30, ending around 5:30, maybe later???)
The two parks under consideration are Park Gilo and Gan Sacher.
Park Gilo -- lots of benches, lots of shade, probably quieter and more intimate
Gan Sacher -- central location (everyone knows where it is)
Both parks have parking (Gilo has more free parking).
Both parks are accessible by bus (probably more buses go to Gan Sacher, but I'm not sure)
Regarding a succah: I have not been able to find out if there are any parks in Jerusalem with a Succah. BUT....
1. we are meeting "in between" meals, so that should alleviate most of the conflict (what?? a Jewish event without food???? couldn't be!)
2. bring fruit and vegetable snacks (they are good for you heart!)
3. women aren't chayav (obligated) in succah, so it's just the men who have a problem!! (did I just say that????)
4. seriously, I can't work miracles. Isru chag was too difficult for most people, so figure out what works for you and deal with it! This is supposed to be fun!!
If you want your input to count, tell me now.
I will post the final date/time/place after Yom Kippur.
Please daven (or send happy, healing thoughts) for RivkA bat Teirtzel.
With love and optimism,
RivkA

can't wait to hear all about it!
Way to go on organizing this! I will definitely try to come - and if I can, I *strongly* vote for Park Gilo! And I will happily provide directions as to how to get there for any who need - no problem :)
I also plan on being there. Hoping to shlep the kids and maybe even the hubby along as well. Thanks for going to the trouble.
And as far as us women not being chayav--hey, am about to say "Sheh asani kirtzono"--Thanking G-d for creating me according to his will.
:-)
I vote for Gan Sacher because it's centrally located. Gilo Park is really only convenient for people living in Gilo or the Gush. It's kind of out of the way for anyone else, especially people coming from outside of Yerushalayim. (Yes, I have been to both places and lived in Gilo many years ago.)
Thanks for organizing, Rivka!
Are there going to be men there? If this is entirely a hen event I wouldn't mind in principle but I could see that it would make others uncomfortable. If so, Mon. is not so good for me because we have a family event in the Rova that day. Anyway, I am all in favor of alternative blogger events, especially since The Man had his footprints on the official one. Shana tova.
Sounds great, and I look forward to coming IY"H!
I also vote for Gan Sacher.
Carl and I (and assorted kids) would LOVE to do this.
(I am a silent but constant enthusiastic lurker on your blog. I never have anything meaningful to add - your posts say it all!).
Either park is fine, tho I have a very slight preference for Park Gilo just 'cause I think it might be less crowded, provide more options of things for kids to do, and I really want to learn where it is so I can go there again in the future!
I wanna come! But it is pretty unlikely. I am still recovering from surgery, and Jerusalem is a bit of a distance from me here in Be'er Sheva. But I want to be part of the JBloggers... why is everything in Jerusalem? (I know, Be'er Sheva isn't on most people's maps)
I vote for Gilo (hiking trails!).
Monday is fine for me.
Thank you so much for organizing this event!
I think sachar is more central no? I am coming from RBS with my daughter and possibly husband in tow if we decide to make that family day in Jerusalem. I do not know where either one is though so I do need directions but bus.
I don't know that I will come. I live far and don't think my family will be too interested, although the hiking trails could be a draw.
Don't know yet...I'm running out of days. My comment is that while Gan Sacher is central - do you have any idea how many people do this?
I'd vote for Gan Gilo, unless you like sitting on people's laps. However, if it rains on that Monday, I'd say Gan Sacher could work fine.
Hope to meet you all there...
Tally of the vote so far:
Park Gilo: 5
Gan Sacher: 3
Don't Care:2
Regarding the day, all but one can make it on Monday, so Monday it is!
(sorry, goyisherebbe. maybe you can pop over before or after?)
For the record, this is absolutely not a hen party -- men, women, and children are all welcome!
Another vote for Gilo...I think in between meals most males can do fine with just beverages and fruit..or maybe some veggies and dip....
I vote Gan Sacher. If I can get over there from the Old City without too much inconvenience to family, I will pop in. Depends how late it goes on. Give a cell phone no. so I can check that you are still there. Eating won't be a problem because they are going to lay it on real good.
I could probably convince my kids to come. Not sure about the husband, I don't think he'd want to be the only one. Also, I think the likelihood of me making it to Park Gilo on my own without ending up somewhere in Timbuktu is slim to nil. Anyone coming from the mercaz who might want to carpool or convoy?
I'm afraid I'll have to take a raincheck this time because we're going off on a tiyul on the coast with some of the kids and grandchildren. Take pictures and write about it everyone! Enjoy!
We'd like to come--not sure it will happen--voting for Gilo.
My vote is for Gilo--nicer view, better parking, more room. Does someone have directions for out-of-towners?
