OMG!!!
If you have not seen Avatar, definitely go see it!!
Moshe took our son, two weeks ago, for a father-son outing. They came home, all excited.
To my surprise, my girls expressed serious interest in seeing it as well.
Scheduling our "girl's night out" was impossible, because my girls are never available, especially me eldest!!
But, tonight, just before my eldest left for gymnastics, she received a call. Class was cancelled.
It was 6:24 pm.
We knew, from when my husband and son went, that the next showing was in just sixteen minutes, at 6:40.
We did not waste a second.
We ran out, jumped in the car, and were out of here.
Thanks to my handy-dandy handicapped parking permit, we parked right outside the entrance. The girls hopped out and ran ahead (with my credit card).
By the time I caught up, they had the tickets in hand, and we went right in.
There was even time to by popcorn (which I NEVER used to buy! Moshe has influenced me, and I knew it would enhance their experience).
The movie is AWESOME!! Epic story, powerful drama, phenomenal CGI/animation, majestic music, magnificent views, and in 3D.... WOW!
View the trailer, then see the movie!
Please daven (or send happy, healing thoughts) for RivkA bat Teirtzel.
With love and optimism,
RivkA

I have not been to the movies in ages.
This sounds like a fun movie and outing.
the kids went to see it last motsei shabbat. they shlepped all the way to haifa and didn't return until after 2:00 a.m. i got stuck with an hysterical and screaming grandson all night long. never really asked them how they liked the movie. i sought of ran out as soon as they returned.
I am glad you had an enjoyable girls night out!!
I'm so gad you had a great time.
and once again -i'm very impressed - i can't imagine being in a situation where i would on the spot decide to that i could and would head out to a movie with children in tow, that i discovered was about to start in a 1/4hr!
maybe it's part of the mindset of my not living in a city, maybe not.
i saw it with A. very cool effects and art! (no comment on plot originality or the mediocre acting - since these aspects are not essential to producing block-buster movies...) my kids want to see it and we'll probably make it a vacation activity during pesach.
did you know it's being shown in three different versions - 2d, standard 3d (with the standard 3d glasses)-which is what we saw, and a new 3d technology(with "active" 3d glsses)which we'll try to see with the kids maybe (it's only in a few theatres across the country)
but i was dissappointed not to see any credit given for obvious "sources of inspiration" (so we don't have to call it "ripping-off" );for instance ever seen "fern gully" or read poul anderson's short story "call me joe"? with your vast sf collection i'm sure you've got it somewhere...
anyway, have a shabbat shalom
hugs
BW
ps- the word verifier has a very appropiate for today setting - "ovenest". and now i must head down to the kitchen and prepare shabbat...
Effects were astounding, but I still napped for half hour in the middle of the movie. They could have shortened it a teeny weeny bit.
My kids all loved it and want to see it again.
Hasya Ya'ara -- now is the time! this movie is a good one to see!!
Ranting Zelda -- you are the best grandma!! go see the movie with a friend!
Liba -- I had wanted to plan it out and maybe do something fun as well, like going for ice cream afterwards and talking about the movie. But I was too tired when it was over. I actually took a nap that afternoon, 'cause I was so knocked out from my day at the hospital, but I still needed to go home right after. Besides, I did not want to spend any more money!
We ran out of the house so fast, I didn't even have time to pack drinks or snacks. I was okay buying popcorn, but I HATE buying drinks!! It seems so outrageous to pay more for a tiny (500 m"l or less) bottle than what I would pay for a liter and a half bottle at the supermarket!
BW -- I am not usually so spontaneous, but I did not know when we would get another chance! That "now or never" feeling is a pretty powerful motivator.
I thought the acting was good and the plot "classic." I am not familiar with the stories you mentioned, but the film definitely has similar themes to Dances with Wolves and Pocahonas. The common elements don't put me off.
I guess we saw the regular 3D, since I do not know what "active" 3D glasses are. I'll have to check that out -- 'cause I definitely want to see the movie again, with Moshe (maybe even with the whole family).
Baila -- I am with your kids!!! how could you nap in the middle of the movie?!?! Even after spending an exhausting day at the hospital, I was sitting at the edge of my seat! (OK, I had a nap. But, still....) I was so sad when it was over!!
I can't wait for the sequel!
I really enjoyed it too.
