A few years ago, R, who was overseeing the research study on my bone drug, shared with me this observation:
Pill boxes do not help you remember to take your pills, rather, they show you when you have forgotten to take them!

You made me laugh!
So funny, but sadly, so true! I was just noticing that yet again, I failed to take the calcium I need, although I am losing bone density in my hips. At least now I can laugh about it!
Do they have a pill box with an alarm? I was wondering that the other day? Then I could have it go off four times a day and maybe....maybe.....I would remember?
MommaMindy-that;s why many people set the alarms on their cellphones, but alas that is no help on Shabbat or Yom Tov.
How about trying to remember to take calcium 4x/day and also iron, but the iron cannot be taken in close proximity to the calcium by at least 2 hours.
remembering to take meds/supplements and on time is a real hurdle to overcome!
Mikimi, I didn't know anyone else took calcium as often as I do! I have the same issue, except on top of the calcium and iron I have my thyroid medication which can't be taken within four hours (before or after) calcium supplements...
Rivka, if that pic was from today I hope it at least wasn't too late to take your Saturday meds!!
Square Peg -- yay!!
Momma Mindy -- yay x 2!!!
I keep meaning to get a watch, so I can set the alarm, so it will remind me to take my pain killers!
Even if I got the watch, I would never get around to setting the alarm....
'
*sigh*
Mikimi -- you said it!
Libi -- see, you're not the only one....
Btw, those aren't my pills!! I took the picture from google and "painted" it a bit.
The pill box also prevents me from taking the meds twice because I forgot that I took them!

BTW, I think that there are pillboxes with alarms - ask your OT. Also ask her for devices to help you with things your hands/fingers used to do, eg buttons, open jars, etc.
MommaMindy-
The blogger at www.disableddaughter.com recently blogged about an alarm clock that you can set multiple times per day, and won't stop ringing until you turn it off (presumably after you've taken your medication or whatever it is). Hope that helps.
That's pre-dementia. I've been handling my father's pills.
NR/LW -- who are you?? I don't recognize the initials. You can email privately. But, please, reveal yourself. I have been wracking my brain for days!!
I actually label my pills, which come in individually sealed packets, so that I don't take them twice!
Sarah -- Since I take the pills at different times, depending on when I wake up or when I feel up to eating, setting an alarm would be a daily chore. Realistically, I would never get around to setting the alarm each day.
Batya -- What is pre-dementia?? (I mean, what are you referring to as pre-dementia?)
Thank you for writing this post on pill box. Looking forward to read more.
