Shepping Nachas

Shepping nachas is a Yiddish expression; literally it means "scooping up satisfaction/pleasure"

What is really means is harder to express.

I googled 'shepping nachas' and came up with this definition, penned by Treppenwitz: 'shepping nachas' can be roughly translated as a combination of deriving great pleasure from something and being extremely proud of someone... for example; when a friend or loved one does something exemplary.

That about sums it up for me.

I am so proud of my son. He delivered a complex drasha and, once again, he spoke clearly and with confidence.

Even when the microphone made all sorts of annoying noises, my son kept his composure and did not lose his train of thought.

At one point in the drasha, he realized that he skipped something earlier on and he seemlessly inserted the relevant information so that he could make his next point.

He had full command of his subject matter and he presented it well.

I could not be any prouder.

Please daven (or send happy, healing thoughts) for RivkA bat Teirtzel.

With love and optimism,
RivkA

I too was quite impressed at how well he did on the speech eventhough the microphone issue was extremely annoying. At my Bar-Mitzvah (almost 23 yrs ago), the band kept distracting me (not on purpose) and I kept getting pretty annoyed at them.

Not to overshadow MD's speech, but yours was very touching also. I learnt a lot about your son and you guys seem to lots to be proud of with how he has turned out. I also never knew that he was named for Danny.

Mazal Tov once again and I was glad to be able to share in your simcha.

I would also love to read your speech about your son if you feel like posting it.

Mazal tov on a job well done to you, Moshe and your young man!

mazel tov to you all, and may your lives be filled with nachas and blessings.

My boys are 33 and 36 now but I still swell with pride when I see them standing on the Bima.

MD's drasha - both content and delivery - was knock down blow me away impressive.

Every one else's words were also excellent.

And it was wonderful seeing people I hadn't in a long time (some for decades!) and others that I only recognized from facebook:-)

All in all, the event of the century.

Love, Gidon
