House Sitter

After I posted that I am going on vacation, it occured to me that I just announced to the whole world that my house will be vacant.

Growing up in New York (OK, New Jersey, but my parents are New Yorkers...), letting people know you were going on vacation was like issuing an invitation to "come, break into my home, and steal all my stuff."

So, when a friend was looking for a place to crash in Jerusalem, I was thrilled to offer our home.

Being the paranoid person I am, I also worry about electrical fires, water leaks, and all sorts of other disasters that can destroy your home while you are away.

It is great to have someone I trust "hold down the fort."

With someone at home, I feel free;  I can enjoy my vacation in peace.

So, if you call, and a strange man answers the phone, just leave a message.  We will get it when we get back!

Please daven (or send happy, healing thoughts) for RivkA bat Teirtzel.

With love and optimism,
RivkA

Yes - there has already been cases of this happening. Some guy posted on Twitter how he and his wife were going on vacation and ended up getting robbed and they traced it to his announcement.

So - you should add that they guy in your house is an ex-Navy seal, armed with two Uzis and an M16 and has brought his pet dog, Killer, for the duration. That should do it.

Hope you are having an amazing vacation. Hag samayah - shabbat shalom.

BTW, Eric's son is being bar mitzvahed next week if you are getting to the Northeast (he's up in MA).

For the record, I (the house sitter) am not "officially" a military anything, but I have had more than my share of legal trouble in Israel for being an unofficial "military" person.

No killer dog, but I AM a dog killer, so if someone breaks in with an attack dog they will leave (if I let them live) withOUT the dog.

And the gummint took my Uzi and my .44 Magnum away because of the aforementioned legal annoyances. So I will just have to kill intruders without using a gun.

Which I CAN do. :^) <-- How do you make a "smilie" with nasty, pointy teeth?

And RivkA obviously forgot when posting this about telling me not to answer the phone, so don't expect to hear my "strange man's" voice.... Which is unfortunate, because I may be one of the stranger men you'd ever speak to. (Wicked laugh.)

Seriously, I think I'm more capable of dealing with the electrical fires and water leaks, which are much more likely (the latter, especially.)

Have fun, RivkA, M, Y, MD, and A! Everything will be here when you get back....

Arnie -- they will come... patience....

Mikimi -- yup!

A Soldier's Mother -- I felt a little paranoid about it, but... "better safe than sorry."

Our house is so cluttered (read: MESSY) that it might just scare away anyone who breaks in! But, on the off chance that it wouldn't, I don't want anybody else messing with my stuff (or taking the meager amount of good stuff away!!).

Anonymous House Guest -- THANK YOU for helping us out!!!
