Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda

I totally should have split that last post (about chemo day) in half! But so often I never get around to posting the second half....

Two long posts in as many days. That goes against the unofficial blog rules -- never post anything longer than 3-4 scroll downs!

You tell me. Do you skip posts that long? (I admit that I often do!)

Should I have split it up?

Should I have edited it more.

Come on, I'm tough.

Give me some feedback!

Please daven (or send happy, healing thoughts) for RivkA bat Teirtzel.

With love and optimism,
RivkA

I always read your entire posts. You write them so clearly, with lots of paragraphs, it makes it so easy to read!

Write what you feel like - the length is not an issue.
What a fabulous chemo day!

I read it all and thought it was very well written and did not need to be shortened.

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement.

Your posts are never too long. I'd never heard "blog rules" before and now that I have think they're probably best ignored, just like most creative writing "rules" are only made so they can be broken by truly great writers. Don't waste your time editing (more than you do that is ... I suspect you do edit)when you have so many more fun and interesting things to do in your life. Your energy amazes me. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Yours is the only blog I read. I read your entire post and never feel encumbered by it.

I think you should write your post as long or as short as suits YOU.

Bottom line, first and foremost, you're writing this for yourself. And aren't you your most important reader?

anon, Annette, Karen, Melissa, Yehudit, Ester & Adena -- Thanks so much for your positive feedback!!

If I ever do cross over that border into the "too long" range, I honestly hope that you will let me know.

Yehudit -- I should have realized someone who remind me that "rules are made to be broken!"

The truth is that that particular guideline (to limit blog posts to three scroll downs) makes a lot of sense to me. Not only do most of my posts fit into the "alloted" space, but when my posts do run longer, I am usually able to edit them down.

You are correct, I do edit my posts, but not as much as I have in the past. I used to spend hours deliberating whether particular words or sentances added to the post or could be editted out without detracting from the post. It took me a while to realize that I did not need to edit my posts quite that critically and that it was better to post a few more words than not to post at all.

Ester -- I am, first and foremost, writing for myself. But I am not only writing for myself. And I am not only writing for you (my current readers). I am also writing for my kids, who might some day read these posts.

I do not want to get so caught up in my own story that I lose the forest through the trees. I am a very detail oriented person, but sometimes the details can be distracting.

There are times when I davka post very detailed stories. Usually these are summaries of days that I spend with the kids and the posts are meant to capture activities we do together as a family. I want to hold on to those memories for my kids, so they will remember me as an active and involved parent. Please God, I will continue to be active for many more years, and write many such posts!
