Funeral Arrangements

This post is being continuously updated till after RivkA's funeral/livaya - please go to the bottom for updates.

The funeral for RivkA will be held Saturday evening, Moetzei Shabbat at 10PM.

It will be at the Kehillat Yerushalayim Beit Hesped in Givat Shaul, Jerusalem, across from the Herzog Hospital (on Har Hamenuchot).

Update: The family is looking for friends of RivkA who would like to volunteer to do "shmira" and say tehillim next to RivkA from 4 PM this afternoon (Friday) through Motzei Shabbat at 6 PM at Shaarei Tzedek Hospital (bring warm clothes). Each shift should be between 4-6 hours, based on the number of volunteers.

Shiva information and additional details will be posted.

View Beit Hesped Kehillat Yerushalayim in a larger map

Update: People speaking at RivkA's funeral are requested to speak in English (if they can) so that RivkA's family from the USA can appreciate your thoughts as well.

Update: As is the Ashkenazic custom in Judaism, after a person dies, they are referred to by their name, and as the son/daughter of their father. Therefore, for those who are praying in her memory, her name is RivkA bat Yishaya HaLevi.

Saturday Night Update: Reminder -- the funeral is at 10 PM, Saturday night, and NOT at 8 PM as it appears on signs around Jerusalem. Shiva information and additional updates posted at the top of the blog. (Or here)

May RivkA's family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

Please daven (or send happy, healing thoughts) for the memory of RivkA bat Yishaya HaLevi.

With love and optimism, RivkA's family

Rivka's inner strength should be passed on to you, her family and friends. A woman to emulate, a woman to admire, a woman who will be sorely missed by so many.

  10. Barukh Dayyan ha-Emet. RivkA was a woman who will never cease to inspire and teach those whom she touched, physically or virtually. God blesses this world with such special souls. It is hard to fathom why we were so blessed to have had her among us, and even more difficult to conceive of a world without her radiance.

  14. Copied from my blog:

I stumbled on the blog about a year and a half ago, and began learning all about her journey through chronic cancer and motherhood. From her, I learned about knowing your limitations as a person and a mother, but pushing to always do as much as you can, to give to your children, your husband, society and yourself. And I got a window into the experiences of the two peopl in my life who are living with cancer. I learned it all from her becasue of her frank way of writing, and how real she was.

RivkA passed on today. I only knew her through a computer, but the loss is....

  16. With RivkA God lit a fire of love and faith in our hearts. Baruch Dayan HaEmet -- may God welcome and embrace a true daughter and give her family and large group of friends comfort in the memory of her love and laughter. I never met her in person, just on the electronic highway, and still I feel our loss of her deeply.

  21. Jameel, or whomever may read this and know - will the funeral be webcast or recorded? I cannot know how hard it is to prepare for RivkA's funeral and am not asking for you to do more than you are. But if either of those two things is available, please let us know. Many thanks for the updates and your kindnesses.

In Praying With Fire(preface xvi~ xvii) it states:

"...When people pray for the recovery of a sick person and in the process draw closer to the Almighty, it is the sick person who has caused the transformation, and the merit goes to her. And the more that people pray for her and are elevated, the more merit she accumulates...The merits accumulated by the sick person, through her own prayers and through the prayers of others, belong to her for all eternity, along with all the mitzvot she has performed during her lifetime. These merits will raise her to the highest levels of Olam Haba and the highest degree of illumination forever.

Thank you RivkA. May your family be comforted among the mourner's of Zion and Jerusalem.

I never met RivkA, but I read her blog regularly, and, as someone living with metastatic breast cancer, I very much appreciated her joie de vivre (however you spell it) and insights. I am rushing to bring in Shabbos, but stopped to check on Rivka before saying my Tehillim for her today.
We never met, but I miss her already.
I hope it gives her family some comfort to see the ripples here and around the world; the impact her daughter has had just by sharing her words, her message, her light.

  32. Who would have thought that a person you'd never actually met could touch your heart and life so profoundly? I've been reading RivkA's blog for over a year. I miss her already. She taught us how to live courageously--and how to die courageously as well. Much love is being sent to RivkA and her family. Wendi from NC, USA

  34. I recently got to know RivkA through her blog - what an incredible person she was. Today I took my children outside and danced in the rain, just as RivkA described in one of her posts.
I hope the family draws comfort from knowing what an incredible wife, daughter and mother they had.

  36. RivkA's struggle was monumental, and she met it with unfathomable strength. I'm among those who did not know her personally, but whom she touched, inspired, and taught through her wisdom and her accounts of her life. The world is a little dimmer with her passing. May her family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
